Working to promote constructive dialogue within Jewish communities
about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other controversial issues

Getting Involved

Contact us at 215-266-1218 or info@jewishdialogue.org to volunteer or to ask any questions.

  1. Organizing Dialogue Sessions
Are you part of a synagogue, school, or organization that might benefit from holding dialogue program for its members? If so, would you like to work with us to organize a program for your group? If you are not in a position to help organize a dialogue, could you refer us to someone else in your group who might want to get involved?

Please note that we facilitate both one-time sessions and multiple-session dialogues that involve three or more meetings over a period of weeks or months. While our primary goal is to foster dialogue about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we have begun facilitating sessions about other issues as well, including the war in Iraq. Most of our dialogue sessions take place in the Philadelphia area and New York, but we hope to offer sample dialogues in other parts of North America in 2007."

  2. Hosting Public Dialogue Sessions
Can you host one of our introductory public dialogue sessions? Could help us identify a synagogue, school, or other venue that might be like to host one of these sessions?

Over the next year, we hope to offer several introductory dialogue sessions, open to any Jewish person who'd like to attend. These sessions will take place both in the Philadelphia area and in other parts of North America. Open sessions usually take place on weekday evenings or Sunday afternoons, and they last about two hours.

You can help by arranging to host one of these sessions at your synagogue, school, or any other venue with which you're connected, or by putting us in touch with someone who can host one of the sessions.

  3. Facilitation
Our the past four years, our volunteer facilitators have led more than one hundred dialogue sessions in synagogues, schools, and other venues around the Philadelphia area and New York. We receive more requests for dialogue programs than we can meet, and we are always looking for more people to help facilitate.

We offer facilitation trainings in the Philadelphia area several times each year. In 2007, we hope to offer facilitation trainings in other parts of North America. See our Upcoming Events page for information on the next training session.

  4. Publicity
We are looking for volunteers to help us to publicize our events, especially our open dialogue sessions. Tasks include:

    • distributing flyers
    • putting together mailings
    • circulating press advisories
    • making phone calls
    • submitting notices to event calendars

We are also looking for volunteers to help us with national publicity for our new guidebook for facilitators. This effort involves many of the same tasks.

  5. Fundraising
We are hoping to raise quite a bit more money this year than in years past, and we need as much assistance with fundraising as we can get. There are several ways that you can help:

    • host a house party in your home
    • help to organize one of our benefit concerts (we hope to hold two this year)
    • work with us to research grant possibilities and to write proposals
    • assist with writing and/or distributing fundraising letters
    • volunteer at a phone bank, helping us to call prospective donors

  6. Writing and Editing
We always need help with a variety of writing projects. We are seeking people to help both to create initial drafts and to edit and proofread. Writing projects include:
